Cassettes

So, where do you buy your cassettes?

Right. That’s what I thought. Frankly, I can’t think of one store that sells a new release on cassette and only one or two that sell used cassettes.

Well here in the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council, which includes Kuwait, Bahrain, UAE, Qatar, Oman and Saudi Arabia), all your cars come standard with a cassette player. And since radio here is a bit miserable, you will need to use that option. Much Arab music is readily available on cassette (even at Virgin Records). Luckily there are a few shops that have enough of a selection of Western music to keep a music-head like me happily tooling around Kuwait. This is what I have so far:
Foo Fighters – In Your Honor
Moby – Play
Kaiser Chiefs – Yours Truly, Unruly Mob
Jimmy Eat World
Deep Forest
John Lee Hooker – Platinum Hits
Joe Jackson – Jumpin’ Jive
Pink Floyd – Atom Heart Mother
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Take Them On, On Your Own

That should work… for now.

Hey, Happy Birthday to you!! Do they have cake in Kuwait?

Speaking of cassettes, the other day I asked Sean where his Walkman was. Total senior moment, I meant to say iPod. I have no idea why it popped into my head.

Of course, I then tried to explain what it was to him. :-)

Of course they have birthday cake! In fact, I’ve had four pieces of birthday cake since I’ve been here - including the one they served me today with my card.

Hey, I still have 100’s of cassettes, and I actually still play them. Mostly from the dreadful 80’s (DB’s, Lets Active, stuff like that)

By the way, Happy Birthday!! I will celebrate for you on Saturday…going to a stag that will have large quantities of booze and women. Don’t know how you can survive without them, I know I couldn’t. Take it easy!

I’m curious how long the tapes last when they are sitting in a car in 120 degree heat.

Are you going to see Grace tomorrow?

    Happy Birthday!

I still make at least one mix tape a week. 2 hours, no slouching. Tapes are the way to go. Tape hiss to my generation is like those vinyl pops to yours i would imagine.

I will issue a full report on the Grace Potters. it will feel like you were right there at the show!
