And I’m on vacation again! And this vacation will consist of… painting. Yes, right now I’m supposed to be priming and the next three days will follow the same itinerary. Sound like fun? Want to join me? Sure - I could have gone to Puerto Rico. But two things collided with that notion: 1) My son’s grades and 2) my wife, Kerry, wanted to paint the interiors some lame color that I will instantly dislike because the paint’s sole function is to “reflect light” - not offer any color or warmth or personality of its own. I will be living in a hospital room. Or an architectural office. But I’m a guy and guy’s have no say so I figure I’ll take these three days to try and get used to it as best as I can. Still sound like fun?
I haven’t posted in a few days because it looked like I would be kicking Tom Waits off the front page with my next post. And Mr. Waits is one of my heroes. See you, Tom! Check out his video under archives.
Last word before painting - Don Imus. Never listened to him. Never cared. Knew he existed. So he said a bone-headed, racist statement. Anyone ever listen to Rush Limbaugh? Well - not me. I don’t care about him either. I DON’T CARE WHAT THESE NIMRODS HAVE TO SAY. So - why does everyone else seem to? Answer: They don’t. It’s just that the media is SOOO tired of talking about Bush and the War and Anna Nicole went and died on them and Paris and Britney are hiding so WHAT ELSE CAN THEY TALK ABOUT?! Now - what was a stupid, racist comment made toward a great women’s basketball team on a show no one really heard has been REPEATED a gazillion times on every major, mainstream, dumbass media outlet on the planet!!
Who inflicted the most damage on these women? I’ve got my answer…

Grow up, get out the damn primer and help me paint over this fugly industrial pale-green hallway.
Do not eff with me, my friend. I cook your food.
xoxo
Funny how it is the wife-bashing that brings out the comments.
It’s not the walls, it’s what is on them. If it’s the walls, then you gotta go groovy. And if it really is that banal, then prime it and call it a day!
As for Imus and those. They don’t matter if you don’t listen to them, or to anyone else. But if you listen to anyone else, or watch any news shows, or even the Sopranos, they do matter, because it is opinions about their opinions on the opinionmakers who opine on the actions of a few and in the end, somehow, it ends up in People and Us and the napp– hairstylist who is shaping your head believes it is an awful thing about Vicky Lynn — oops — Anna Nicole. They only matter because it is the voice.
If, however, one can absolutely live in the bubble (and I can’t), then they don’t matter.
The bubble. That would be a true vacation.
Lots of love!

But what you’re saying is that you can’t run away from the talking airheads that rule the tube, print and airwaves. To which I agree. What I’m saying is that - in our Nanny Society - if you can fire someone for “insensitive speach” (racist or otherwise), can’t you fire everyone else who ALSO repeated in public that insensitive speach? How do you know they don’t feel the same way? Maybe they are getting off on repeating those phrases?
Yesterday, Keith Oberman wondered whether Simon Callow on Idiot Idol was being “insensitive” to a contestant. Simon Callow?! Isn’t that his job? Wasn’t Imus’ job to be a “shock jock”? That is what NBC paided him for for years!
Should we start talking about what “insensitive speach” would get a black commentator removed from his job?
talk about your slippery slopes…
OK…I’m not commenting on the paint..As the single guy, I don’t have those issues. However, on the Imus issue, have the protesters call me when their voices aren’t two phonies like Sharpton and Jackson. And if I hear one more person say that Jackson calling New York “Hymietown” or Sharpton perpatrating the Tywanna Brawley hoax is “different” from what Imus did, my head WILL explode. Was Imus wrong? Yes! But is Limbaugh wrong for calling Obama “Halfrican-American”? Is Gibson of Fox News wrong for saying that whites should have more babies so they aren’t over-run by Hispanics? Absolutely! But where is the outrage for that? Or the outrage for the year the Duke kids lost because of an ego-maniac of a prosecuter? Personally, I have more important things to worry about than what some morons say on the radio. NY Ranger playoffs start tonite!!!
I told my husband this Imus thing wasn’t going to go away quietly. The news cycle was just too slow.
But leave it to Mike to put things back into perspective.
hey, no words on Kurt Vonnegut?
